Continuing our summer series sharing a variety of videos all focused on the gospel. You may be tempted to watch one or two and say, “yeah, that was great, got it.” Resist that temptation. Take note from week to week of what is similar in the videos and what is different. Think about how to incorporate the best of what you hear into your own heart and mind. As always, we share these videos as tools to help us, but we don’t claim every word in every video is perfect. We are intentionally choosing a variety of people and styles to explore what is helpful and encouraging to us and those we hope to see come to love the gospel.
Let’s shake things up in week 3– after Sproul, Ferguson, and Lane Tipton, what would you naturally expect to be the next video? If you said, spoken word poetry by a hip-hop artist, well then you would be correct! This video has been around for some time and has drawn interest in Reformed and Calvinistic circles. It was produced by an evangelical organization about 12 years ago.
Watch the video and take note of 1 or 2 things that stand out to you:
Question for Thought of Discussion:
Regardless of what you think of the style (favorable or not), can you think of someone you know who might resonate with this and potentially engage or profit from it more than a more typical video like Sproul or Ferguson? Would you be comfortable sharing it with them? Why or why not? What do you think about the presentation of the gospel and the content of the gospel in the video?
To Do:
Here’s a suggested exercise for this whole series: Each week take note of 1 or 2 things that really stand out to you and write them down or put them in an email draft to yourself or in a note on your phone. At the end of the series, you will have some really helpful notes on the gospel for yourself and others.
