Former OPC church planter and recently installed Regional Home Missionary for Southern CA, Chris Hartshorn leads a conference on evangelism for the churches of SoCal. If you don’t know Chris, please take our word that this will be worth your time. Watch on your own, as a family, or as a church. For each of the three parts, we will supply some questions for thought or discussion.
Questions for Thoughts or Discussion:
1. Chris talked about how the fundamentals–life and death, heaven and hell–serve as powerful motivations for evangelism. R.C. Sproul’s quote: “If we really believe in a day of judgment, our evangelism would increase 100-fold.” Have these fundamentals become too familiar or taken for granted and lost their motivation for evangelism in our lives? If so, how could we rekindle that sense of urgency for souls that will face judgment soon, apart from Christ?
2. Chris talked about passion–that anything you are passionate about you will find a way to do it. Think about things you are passionate about in your life and how they play into your priorities. Now, give an honest assessment of your level of passion for the gospel, Christ, and reaching the lost. Where do they stand? If high, why? If lower, why? How could you raise the passion for evangelism? Can you think of a time when you were more passionate? Why? What has changed? Can you think of people you know that are passionate about evangelism–how could you feed off their passion? How could a church raise the corporate passion for evangelism?
3. “Get good at telling your story with Jesus at the center” ~ Chris. How are you at that? What could get you more comfortable? Who could you take a little time with and work together to improve how you tell your story with Jesus at the center?
