Here is a helpful video with RHM Mike Diercks interviewing Matthew Patton, one of the pastors at Covenant in Vandalia, OH. They are talking about church planting in general, but also the specifics of mother-daughter church plants that they have done in Ohio. Below the video, we have supplied a few questions for thought or for discussion among a session or small group of people.
Questions for Thought or Discussion:
1. Matthew talked about the importance of a vision for church planting among the congregation and among the session. What are 2 things you could do in the next 6 months to help cultivate a better vision for church planting in your church or if you are an elder, among your session?
2. Do you have a vision for church planting in your church? Is it written? Should every church have a set-out vision that you could point to or share with someone? Would you expect to notice any differences between a church that had an agreed-upon vision for church planting on their website and on the back table at the church and a church that didn’t have such a vision?
3. If you are a church that is not currently involved in or looking toward church planting, what is one takeaway from this video that could point you towards more awareness and involvement in the next few months?
4. If you are involved in church planting, what’s one takeaway that would improve your vision or practice for church planting?
