This story relayed to us through an elder in the OPC…
We rejoice in the Lord to hear that a young college aged woman living in the home of an OPC family has recently come to faith during this pandemic.
Two notes of encouragement we may glean from this as we seek to be more outward. First is the unique role streaming worship services played in this young lady’s journey towards Christ. A lot of evangelism can happen before someone even enters the doors of our church–even with social distancing! Watching the streaming services of an OPC church with the Christian family she was living with provided an opportunity to hear the Word of God preached clearly and powerfully in a disarming setting. In fact this young woman, struggling with broader social anxieties, previously described being scared to go to church due to the amount of people. And yet the Spirit used an online service as a means of convicting her of her sin and need for the Savior. She also realized, “I cannot be a Christian and not be part of the body”–something she had not understood as essential beforehand. In God’s providence there is even an OPC church plant where she is about to move!
Second is the Lord’s blessing upon the long-term ministry of hospitality: This family had been involved with this woman since she was very young. These small, intentional efforts to proclaim the gospel outside the doors of our churches are indeed being used as tools in the hands of a mighty God. God is at work, even when we feel hindered!
