Here is Part 2 with Eric Hausler. If you missed last week’s email or are new to Outward OPC, here is Part 1. Having laid the foundation for an evangelistic culture in the church in Part 1, Eric now tells some stories of how that has worked out with specific people in Naples.
Questions for Thought or Discussion:
1) These examples, of course, are very particular to Eric, but there are some important underlying commitments to consider. Eric said last week that he views every contact with a person as a “divine appointment” and in this video he says that when he is going out he asks the Lord, “who might you be bringing into my path?” How do those commitments and practices impact Eric’s interactions with people over the long haul of just living life? What would those commitments look like in your life….how would you put them into practice?
2) 2 of the 3 examples Eric gives had nothing to do with his intentionality of going to meet people to talk about the gospel, but everything thing to do with his attitude toward anyone he may meet. When is the last time you were doing one thing and the Lord brought someone into your path with a specific “divine appointment”–what they said or something that happened that made it obvious? Are you consistently ready for the Lord to break your rhythm of the day with such a divine appointment? How might you better prepare for these given our busy lives that press us most every hour of the day?
3) Eric mentions that he is always looking for a “hook” to start/further conversation with people. What are the most obvious and common “hooks” that you should be looking for given your personality and interests? Maybe take the next week and think about every potential hook you see in your life with someone….even if you don’t say a word or act on one of them. Just see how it changes your view of people to be looking for hooks? (Bonus points: Take a bold step and start a conversation or two and see what happens.)
