Last month, Pastor Andrew Moody and San Antonio Reformed took the opportunity to have an intentional outreach for their worship service on the Sunday before Valentine’s Day. They called it “True Love Sunday.” The description on the Facebook event page first caught our eye:
They provided members with a card to invite people:
Members invited people for 2 weeks prior to that Sunday. The church promoted it on Facebook, which they noticed provided good interaction with the community.
Andrew preached a sermon, “True Love,” from 1 John 4:7-21. Here is the link if you are interested in checking out the sermon Andrew prepared with potential visitors in mind. Andrew is good at communicating in ways that resonate with people outside the church without dumbing down the message. This is even evident from the Facebook event description above. Here is the sermon link: “True Love: 1 John 4:7-21 – Andrew Moody”
We checked in with Andrew to see how the event went and if there were any noteworthy results. He highlighted the following:
1) It was very encouraging to hear from the members that they were actively and intentionally inviting their friends, co-workers, and classmates to a worship service. (An encouragement and a cultivated habit that we shouldn’t pass by quickly as a benefit of an event like this).
2) At least 3 people showed up as first time visitors because of the event.
3) Because of the Facebook invite they used, there was a unique opportunity to minister to a member of the community who attended the worship service.
Andrew looks forward to the church doing more events like this and is greatly encouraged at how the congregation is active in inviting people and how the Lord blessed that in this event.
