As we move through our church plants getting updates, we ask them to tell us about a visitor who is regularly coming to the church. Who are they? How did they come to the church?, etc.
We want to share those from time to time. We hope they will serve a couple of purposes:
1) Encourage you with what God is doing in bringing people to our church plants
2) Give you something very specific to pray about that these visitors would take hold of Christ if they haven’t and become members of the church.
3) Think about patterns and interesting things in these updates and think about how they spur you and your own congregation on to get to know people and invite them to church.
Here is the first round of responses….(geography & identity are intentionally removed)
A guy from Malaysia. He came to the church because the pastor saw him in a neighborhood gym and invited him to worship. The church was able to help him in a difficulty and now he’s coming to the Men’s Breakfast and weekly comes to worship on Sunday morning.
A Muslim woman from Colombia, South America. The pastor met her quite by accident (God’s amazing Providence) in her driveway 3/4 of a mile from his house. She started coming to church about 18 months ago and is very curious about Jesus. She comes to Wednesday night Bible study now, and Women’s Bible study.
A self-proclaimed athiest. He has been coming for two months and often stays for lunch after the service. The pastor met him at a local philosophy and theology discussion group and invited him to attend worship.
A state trooper with his wife and two small children. The pastor and his wife got to know them over a year’s time and then invited them to church and they came. They both had some church experience growing up but had never been a part of a church as adults. They are currently in process of becoming members.
A woman who is a former police officer. She came to church through her son who is currently taking membership class. She does not have any evangelical background, although she came from the Roman Catholic Church. She has a mixture of beliefs but she has a great interest in knowing more about the Word of God.
A mechanic and truck driver with his wife and two small children. The pastor met them through a mutual friend. The family left a heretical “church” situation and are now attending an OPC plant regularly.
A young single man. The pastor met him through a friend. His church background is Pentecostal. He has recently come to believe the doctrines of grace and has been attending worship and a Bible study over the past month.
A truck driver who heard about the church from an elder who is a well-known doctor in town. This gentleman attends regularly and has lots of questions.
A university student the pastor met through Christianity Explored. He is now coming to church and has met with the pastor a couple times to discuss the gospel and discipleship.
